36th PTP Congress

2017-09-29

The Laboratory again co-sponsored the event and actively contributed to the sessions and discussions. The 36th Congress of the Polish Psychological Association (PTP) is over. This year's edition entitled  “Psychology ofr Health and Society” was held in Gdansk on 21-24 September. It was co-organized by the Gdansk branch of the PTP and University of Gdansk.

The Laboratory again co-sponsored the event and actively contributed to the sessions and discussions.

The busiest day for us was Friday, September  22. During the session Neuropsychology: classical issues and contemporary approaches Iwona Bac and Joanna Stańczak presented specific problems involved in the administration of the BVRT and DCS-II tests among various clinical groups. On the same day also took place the first of our workshops, the HR Specialist Workshop devoted to the ways of applying psychological tests in the processes such as recruitment and promotion. The workshop was conducted by Urszula Brzezińska and Maria Rafalak.

During the afternoon session a symposium devoted to the new methods of assessing children development was held moderated by Prof. Grażyna Krasowicz-Kupis and Joanna Stańczak. During the symposium Radosław Wujcik presented the Polish adaptation of  DTVP-3, or the most recent version of Developmental Test of Visual Perception.

On Saturday, September 23 a panel session was held devoted to the role of psychologist and the function of psychological assessment in the process of deciding on handicap and on the degree of limitation of work ability. One of the experts on the panel was Aleksandra Jaworowska who talked about the third version of Adaptive Behaviour Assessement System (ABAS-3) in the context of assessment tools a practicing psychologist needs to decide on handicap.

It was on the last day of the Congress that the event we especially looked forward to took place. This was the WISC-V workshop entitled “Wechsler's Intelligence Scales for Children – new  version, wider assessement possibilities”. The authors of the Polish adaptation of the fifth WISC edition Anna Matczak, Aleksandra Jaworowska and Joanna Stańczak talked about the capability of the scale, similarities and differences when compared to earlier versions and the development of the Polish version.

We would like to cordially thank all those who attended our workshops and sessions. We hope it was a fruitful experience.

For the whole period of the Congress our stand was open with our employees presenting new products, distributing information materials and small gadgets. The stand was visited by many prominent guests such as Prof. Jan Strelau, Dr. Małgorzata Toeplitz-Winiewska as well as Prof. Joanna Czarnota-Bojarska. We are glad that it became a meeting point where we could exchange opinions, explain doubts and inspire to further work.

The weather was exceptionally nice so it was enough time to say hello to the sea and enjoy once again the picturesque little streets of the Gdansk old town.
