The Reflectivity Questionnaire is designed to assess reflectivity as a trait of a person's cognitive style. It allows to measure two types of reflectivity: one understood as cognitive activity associated with strong task motivation and self-confidence (the Prudence scale) and the other understood as caution due to the anxiety of failure and the lack of self-confidence (the Insecurity scale). Currently it is the only tool of this kind available based on the original conception by Prof. Anna Matczak.

The questionnaire includes 75 items which are statements formulated in the first person singular describing a variety of behaviours, likings and preferences. The examinee evaluates the truth-value of each statement in reference to its own person and qualifies statements as true or false.

The items are divided into two scales. The first is the NS or Insecurity scale comprising 35 items and the second is the ROZ or Prudence scale comprising 33 items. There are also seven buffer items.

The tool was standardized for the adult population with at least high-school education level.

Reliability: Based on internal compatibility and scores stability it proved fully satisfactory: all internal compatibility coeffcients (the Cronbach alphas) have values of more than .8; scores stability (the Pearson r's) between test and retest were .8 for the Insecurity scale and .75 for the Prudence scale.

Validity: During validation research correlations (the Pearson r coefficients) between the KR scores and scores of the LOT-R, BDI-II, PSS-10, CISS, LBQ and Your Work tests were examined. Some of the expected correlations were found between the KR scores and variables defining various motivation aspects (incl. the need for cognitive closure and achievement motivation), states of feeling and coping with stress. The collected data lend support to theoretical validity of the tool.

Norms: Scores are referred to s-ten norms developped with the use of a sample of more than 1000 respondents, separately for two age groups: 18-39 years and 40-78 years. The questionnaire manual includes guidelines concerning interpretation of each scale as well as their configurations.

Applicability: The KR can be applied in practice as an extra tool in the assessment of intellectual functioning. It may also prove useful when the causes of a person's failures in certain areas (such as education, work or social life) are investigated or when success in various activities is predicted. The KR scores can be used therefore in clinical, educational  and professional counseling. When communicated to the examinee they can enrich his/her self-knowledge of his/her own cognitive preferences and constitute a valuable starting point for self-developmental activities.
