Description: IDS Intelligence and Development Scales is a comprehensive tool to measure abilities and competencies of children aged 5-10. The test consists of 19 subtests examining six different function areas of the child. The tasks are diverse and interesting for children. There are some aids used during the examination (e.g.: small books, beads, blocks, photos, figurines, ball) in the test kit.

Reliability: internal consistency assessed for the total normalization sample.Reliability for Fluid and Crystallized Intelligence .94, internal consistency for the Full Scale slightly higher– .96. Thus, all three scales can be used in individual diagnosis. Reliability of seven Fluid Intelligence tests .77-.96; of three Crystallized - about .90. Reliability coefficients of other tests: psychomotor skills .62-.73;socio-emotional competencies .51-.71; achievement motivation .91- .96. Satisfactory absolute stability: higher for intelligence scales (about .90) lower for competencies (.60-.70).

Validity: All IDS Intelligence Scales correlate highly with analogous WISC-R scales (about .80), ensuring interchangeability in intelligence assessment. Numerous correlations of the IDS with other cognitive tests also confirm the validity of the IDS as a tool assessing various cognitive skills. Test results can be seen as a valid predictor of functioning in the area of skills important at school. The IDS Intelligence Scales also permit to make valid predictions about school achievement (correlations with school grades). Comparison of results in clinical groups (dyslexia, ADHD, Asperger Syndrome) has shown that the results differ, as expected, among children from the general population and children from the clinical groups, and that these differences can be observed both in the area of intelligence and in the ability or competency profile. Factor analysis confirmed the theoretical foundation of the original IDS version.

Norms: Children aged 5;0 – 10;11(30).

Applications: IDS can be used to measure the intelligence level. The results in the IDS Intelligence Scales: Fluid, Crystallized, and in the Full Scale are expressed as Wechsler IQ (with the mean of 100 and standard deviation of 15). However, the IDS enables the diagnosis in a much broader sense than intelligence measurement alone. Considering the broad range of abilities and competencies measured with the IDS, there is also possible: profile analysis of different development areas, diagnosis of school readiness including development areas important for school functioning: socio-emotional competencies, mathematics, language, and achievement motivation.
